Fundraising and Volunteer Management


Samantha Banks 

Samantha is smitten with dance and advocacy. This summer, she will have completed her Graduate Program in Fundraising and Volunteer Management from Humber College and has a BFA in Contemporary Dance from Concordia University. Sam was elected Vice President Special Events for the Fine Arts Student Alliance, where she organized orientation for 5,000 students and acted as a Fine Arts Councilor for the Concordia Student Union. She approved upwards of $1.8 million budgets and voted in the best interest of 35,000 undergrads. Sam was appointed Events Coordinator for a city council candidate and has held successful fundraising and social community events. She served as president for a campus, citywide and international youth movement, and was responsible for implementing leadership development and social justice programming. Sam coordinated national conferences, managed a board of 18 members and ran international campaigns such as Size Doesn’t Matter. Sam was actively engaged on the board of directors for United Israel Appeal and Hillel Canada. She has attended conferences throughout the world that focused on interfaith and peace in the Middle East. She was selected for fellowships with the Canadian Jewish Political Affairs Committeeand Canadian Israel Experience- Birthright. Sam was Social Chair for Students Take Action Now for Darfur and fundraised for Doctors Without Boarders. She choreographed for the Israeli Cancer Relief Foundation fashion show and volunteered for Bridal Bash Foundation, raising over $600,000 forMount Sinai Hospital, Reena Foundation, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Giant Steps. Sam taught a movement program to underprivileged youth at Tynsdale Community Center and raised awareness for Save a Childs HeartDemocracy in Action- Crisis in Iran and Ishmael Beah a former child soldier. Sam is honoured to have worked with unbelievable people and will continue to change lives until the day people stop changing hers. 


Caela Berry  


Caela Berry’s commitment to the philanthropic community began at an early age.  She has worked on letter writing campaigns for organizations such as Plan Canada (formerly known as Foster Parents Plan) as a child, and Amnesty International, Development and Peace, and Frontier College as a teen.  Along with various self-initiated volunteer projects in her community, Caela has demonstrated her dedication to the not for profit sector which has flourished into a professional career. 

A recent graduate of the University of Toronto, Caela specialized in Political Science and Geography and nurtured her interest in Urban Planning and History.  While completing her degree, she furthered her involvement in the community by working for Algonquin Child and Family services, and contributing to Free the Children, Food Not Bombs, and OXFAM.   

Today, Caela is completing her graduate studies at Humber College in the Fundraising and Volunteer Management programme.  While completing her studies, she is actively encouraging volunteerism in the not for profit sector.  



Ashley Boucher 

Ashley has been an active volunteer since the age of 14. Her volunteer experience includes, but is not limited to: Mentoring at St. Alban's Boy's and Girl's Club, organizing social and fundraising events as the Events Coordinator for the ACS student union at Ryerson University, personally assisting clients of Fife House and fundraising with Taste for Life's annual campaign in support of HIV/AIDS research and volunteering at Dress For Success as a stylist and managing client referral emails. Currently, Ashley volunteers at ShelterBox Canada, assists the Whippersnapper Gallery by prospecting and cultivating donors and is part of the sponsorship committee for TedXHumberCollege. Ashley is completing the Fundraising and Volunteer Management Graduate program at Humber College, where one of her proudest accomplishments was acting as the  Sponsorship Committee Chair for the Humber Initiative on Philanthropy conference 2011. She wants to continue enriching the lives of individuals for years to come. 


Melanie Castillo

Melanie Castillo has always been interested in culture, the arts, and heritage.  While pursuing her Honours BA in Cultural Anthropology and Geography from the University of Toronto, Melanie gained experience working in both an academic bookstore, and a university library. She has volunteered with numerous literary and cultural programs, including Doors Open Toronto, ideaCity, Word on the Street, and the International Festival of Authors.


Melanie currently interns at a not-for-profit cultural organization where she facilitates and coordinates partnered promotions by providing support from initial development, to execution and evaluation.


 She expects to complete a Graduate program in Fundraising and Volunteer Management at Humber College in August 2011. Hoping to pursue a career in culture heritage industries, Melanie loves museums, libraries, and theatre.


Teresa Cheng  

 Teresa Cheng received her Bachelor of Arts in Family and Social Relations and Information Technology from the University of Windsor. She was an active member of the university community, which familiarized her with volunteer management, organizing special events and fundraising. For Students Orienting Students, she was a member of the Advisory Board and Volunteer Selection Board, planning and organizing the orientation program for new students and their parents and selecting new volunteer orientation leaders. Teresa was a Faculty of Arts Representative for the University of Windsor Students’ Alliance and helped UWSA’s mandate in advocating for students’ rights.  As a Volunteer Development Assistant for the Educational Development Centre, Teresa compiled and updated the training handbook organized campus resource training and presented training material for volunteers. She also trained and coordinated volunteers for some of Windsor Welcome Week’s events


Upon graduation, Teresa joined a team of volunteer coordinators at Carefirst Seniors and Community Services Association. Here she continued to develop her volunteer and event management skills by coordinating the Youth Volunteer Development program. It was her responsibility to develop and organize educational and special events, and social programming in accordance with budget, policies and funding guidelines.


Teresa is currently attending Humber College pursuing a graduate program in Fundraising and Volunteer Management. She remains actively involved with Tennis Canada and City of Toronto Special Events.


Frankie Chow

Frankie Chow brings more than 10 years of volunteer and work experience in the not-for-profit sector. He was the volunteer coordinator for the Southern York Region Wellness Association and has served as Vice President for the Toronto Paragon Leos Club. He was also the Sponsorship Chair for their first fundraising event which raised $5000 for the Fu Hui (Canada) Foundation to help provide education and housing for children in China. Frankie has also volunteered at a variety of special events for many charities and non-profit organizations including but not limited to Heart and Stroke Foundation, United Way of York Region, Royal Ontario Museum, MonSheong Foundation, and World Vision. 

After earning his Honours BA in East Asian Studies and a minor in Philosophy and Classical Studies at the University of Toronto, he went on to complete a Fundraising and Volunteering Management Certificate Program at George Brown College. Currently, Frankie is enrolled in a graduate program in Fundraising and Volunteer Management at Humber College. Frankie's interest in the not-for-profit sector includes arts and culture, environmental issues, health, and human rights issues. His main focus is in digital fundraising and special events.   

While at Humber, he was involved with his program's Movember Wrap Party Event helping to raise more than $20,000 for Movember Canada. He was also the sponsorship chair for Dine in the Dark, helping to raise $2,200 for ORBIS Canada. Frankie is currently interning with Hospice Toronto as the Special Events Intern for their annual signature fundraiser, TD Presents There's No Place Like Home. He is extremely excited about utilizing his knowledge and experiences at Humber and his passion for special events to benefit the not-for-profit sector.


Georgia Clarke  

Georgia Clarke has a long and varied history of volunteerism. She has worked with the elderly as both a companion and caregiver, and has given her time and energy to several women’s shelters and organizations. She is also very proud of her work with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty against Animals (S.P.C.A.), where she was fortunate to be involved in many different levels of the charity. This included caring for the shelter animals, participating in pet therapy, and teaching animal education to underprivileged children. In addition to her volunteer work, Georgia has spent the past couple of years teaching English to injured employees, as well as working for the Disabilities Department at several post-secondary institutions. Georgia received a Degree in English Literature and Language from King’s College at the University of Western Ontario. She also completed an M.A. in English from McMaster University, where one of her major research projects focused on volunteerism as a form of healing and advocacy for women who have experienced violence. Georgia is currently enrolled in the Fundraising and Volunteer Management graduate course at Humber College, and is excited about what the future holds. 


Erin Cook

Erin discovered her skill for facilitating the creativity of others as a teenager, while teaching in a local dance studio. She has volunteered in several high needs, inner-city schools and special needs classrooms, using the arts to engage at-risk students. In 2003 Erin volunteered on the Executive Committee for Orientation at Victoria College at the University of Toronto, where she was responsible for all educational programs, including designing and executing training for 120 student-leaders and two dozen seminars on transitioning into post-secondary education presented to 800 incoming students. Erin became addicted to the energy of working in the arts during her time managing Events at the Isabel Bader Theatre at the University of Toronto, and her commitment crystalized in work for the Canadian Opera Company as Ticket Services Supervisor. In her work at the COC, Erin created an internal website as a fingertip resource for front line staff, and training guidelines for customer service policies tailored to patrons of the arts and designed to found and maintain life-long patronage relationships. Presently, Erin is throwing her commitment and energy into studying Fund Raising and Volunteer Management at Humber College.


Malinda Denbok  



Over the past 10 years, Malinda has been very involved in her community. She is passionate about humanitarian causes and issues related to health both nationally and internationally. Malinda graduated from the University of Western Ontario (UWO) with a Bachelor in Managerial and Organizational Studies and minored in Sociology.  She is currently enrolled in Fundraising and Volunteer Management at Humber College’s graduate program. While at University she volunteered with organizations such as Student Development Centre’s Services for UWO Students with Disabilities, Hutton House, and Community Living London. Internationally, she has spent time in Grand Rapids, Michigan and in Jaurez, Mexico working in communities with poor living conditions. She recently returned from living in Australia where she volunteered with the Cancer Society. Three years ago, Malinda spearheaded her first fundraising event, proudly raising nearly $1500 for a girl’s group in Zambia. Malinda actively participated in the planning committees for the Superwalk for Parkinson’s Society Canada, Valentini for Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and Relay for Life for Cancer Society. Her work on these committees varied from catering an event for 700 people, promotions, and obtaining prizes and auction items. Involvement in these events peaked her interest in fundraising and she is excited to further pursue this avenue. 




Lauren Dzenis

Lauren first experienced the challenge and thrill of fundraising while earning her honours BA from the University of Toronto in Fine Art History and Visual Studies. Lauren spearheaded the fundraising for her undergraduate Thesis show, acting as secretary and organizing fundraising events, successfully securing several grants, and helping execute their critically acclaimed exhibition.  She was exposed to the inner workings of development offices through her research seminar at the ROM, and through her volunteer work at the Gardiner Museum. She served as a philanthropic committee member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, helping to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research.


These experiences steered Lauren toward gaining a post graduate education in Fundraising and Volunteer Management at Humber College. While completing the program, Lauren has had the opportunity to contribute to many not-for-profit organizations through projects including annual campaign plans, prospect research, and research on monthly-giving trends. She worked with Bereaved Families Ontario – Toronto to plan and execute their annual fundraiser, raising $20,000 for the organization. She also held the position of Co-Chair, Sponsor Relations for the successful 2011 Humber Initiative on Philanthropy.


Mahnoosh Eslahi  

Mahnoosh Eslahi experienced her first journey as a volunteer at the International Society for Iranian Studies Conference at the University of Toronto.  She coordinated publications and prints material for the conference. 


In the last few years, her passion for human rights and freedom led her to volunteer in different events in the private sector.


Her enthusiasm for the revival of Iranian culture and democracy led her to become a board member of  “Green Seculars-Toronto” a non-profit organization which promotes democracy and freedom in Iran. 


Mahnoosh holds a B.A. in Handicrafts and Art. During her tenure at the university, she experimented with different types of mediums.  Her artwork has been displayed in several exhibitions.


Currently, she is attending the Fundraising and Volunteer Management program at Humber College in Toronto, where she immigrated to 10 years ago. 


Julia Falbo  

 Julia Falbo brings a range of experience, passion, and enthusiasm to the field of fundraising.  Her most recent position was Event Coordinator with Epilepsy Halton Peel, where she assisted in the organization of several successful events.  This includes selling over 300 tickets for events, securing large donations and controlling multiple outputs of social media.  Julia has also sat on the University of Toronto Student Union’s Board of Directors.  Her school involvement led her to assist in creating a new charity based organization at the University of Toronto at Mississauga.  Through this organization she was elected VP Events where she planned social nights and campaigns to raise funds and awareness for local charities.  Her most successful event was a date auction which helped to raise over $3000 for Sick Kids hospital.     Julia has a strong passion for working with underprivileged and disabled children, as well as international and human rights. She is a graduate from the University of Toronto specializing in English Literature and majoring in French Language Teaching and Learning.  She is currently completing a postgraduate certificate in Fundraising and Volunteer Management at Humber College in Toronto.

Molly Freeman  

Molly Freeman is currently enrolled in the Humber College Fundraising and Volunteer Management graduate program. Her passion for helping others developed in her early age, and eventually led her to McMaster University, from which she received a Bachelor of Arts in Gerontology. Her time in university allowed her to recognize her strong desire to make a difference in the health-care sector, and more specifically seniors’ issues. She has volunteered at a long-term care facility in Hamilton, been the captain of a Relay for Life team, was an executive member of McMaster’s Health, Aging and Society Student Association, and completed a placement at the Alzheimer Society of Hamilton-Halton.


During her time at Humber, Molly has had the opportunity to work on projects such as annual campaigns, direct mail, prospect research, advocacy campaigns, grant writing, and the organization of major fundraising events. She has worked with organizations such as Famous PEOPLE Players, the Working Women's Community Centre, Hospice Toronto, Journalists for Human Rights, and ORBIS Canada.


Molly is currently completing an internship at Hospice Toronto, and is enthusiastically looking forward to more opportunities to make a difference in the not for profit sector.


Tammy Garcia  


Tammy Garcia recently returned from Hanoi, Vietnam after 3 years of teaching Kindergarten at Singapore International School. Her passion for children inspired her to volunteer at the local orphanages within Hanoi. Through her successful fundraising efforts, her school was able to hire a Kindergarten teacher for a local orphanage to educate 15 children for a full school year.


Tammy has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Gerontology from the University of Guelph. Her cooperative education program gave her the opportunity to plan and execute a trade show, “Retire in Style”, for Evergreen Seniors Centre which is now an annual event. The planning and organization of this event inspired her interest in fundraising and event management.


Tammy is currently enrolled in the Fundraising and Volunteer Management graduate program at Humber College. Through her commitment and enthusiasm, Tammy looks forward to working with not for profit organizations with the goal of enriching the lives of others. 


Leah Gardiner  


Leah Gardiner completed an honours BSc. in Biological Anthropology from Trent University in 2005. After graduation she moved to South Korea and taught ESL to kindergarten students for three years. She then spent a year solo backpacking throughout South East Asia indulging in the diverse languages, cultures and cuisines. Highlights include; enjoying family stays in Mongolia, completing her Hatha Yoga Teachers Training in India, learning to surf in Australia and snorkeling in Egypt.


Leah has held various volunteer positions in student governments, athletic associations and organizations that work with children. Leah has a keen interest for languages. She is fluent in spoken French, knowledgeable in Korean (both language and cultural customs) and is also a student of American Sign Language, having completed 2 of 5 levels. She is currently doing prospect research on a contract basis for the Ontario Deaf Foundation.


Leah participated in the Humber Initiative in Philanthropy Conference 2011 as part of the planning committee as well as a presenting speaker. She presented on her independent research connecting vicarious trauma to the fundraising profession. Leah will be completing her internship placement with Taking IT Global, a charitable organization that empowers youth to understand and act on the world's greatest challenges. She is also a fundraising advisor on their Advisory Board.


Leah is pursuing a graduate degree at Humber College in Fundraising and Volunteer management. She is inspired by cultural diversity and passionate about leadership and wellbeing. She is eager to start working in the sector, engaging children and youth in philanthropy and voluntarism.





Sara Glover  



Laura Graham 

Laura Graham has been an enthusiastic volunteer for 13 years. She spent five years working with youth at Ontario Pioneer Camp, both as a leadership mentor and as a staff-trainer. While completing her Honours BA in Global Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University, she was heavily involved in many campus clubs and activities. She was an executive member of the Global Studies Club, helped to found a campus Farmer's Market, and planned a campus and community-wide peace-related art show.  Laura has also had various volunteer opportunities in her community with organizations such as Meals on Wheels, Canada Helps, and Matthew House. In 2007, Laura had the opportunity to live in South Africa and volunteer with a health organization (Human Health Development Trust) which specialized in working with patients with Tuburculosis and HIV/AIDS. Currently, Laura is involved withWar Child Canada,  and is interning as their Volunteer Coordinator for an important fundraising event. Laura is also in the process of completing the Graduate program at Humber College in Fundraising and Volunteer Management, and is looking forward to working with organizations involved in international development and social justice. 


Carolyn Hawthorn




Luke Inglis  

Luke Inglis was born in Malawi, Africa and spent much of his teenage years there. This experience influenced Luke’s social conscience, inciting a passion for humanitarian justice and environmental altruism. Luke has a personal understanding of the existing disparities in the world, and his life path is aimed at reducing them throughout both his personal life and professional career. Luke completed a degree in International Development Studies at The University of Guelph, which solidified his desire to help others on both a national and international scale. Over the past two years Luke has worked as a face to face fundraiser through the street and door to door canvassing mediums. He has worked for several charities, enrolling people as monthly donors with great success. He fundraised on behalf of World Vision, The World Wildlife Fund, The Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research, CARE Canada, The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, and The Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation. He is currently enrolled at Humber College in the Fundraising and Volunteer Management graduate program, and a volunteer with The Nature Conservancy of Canada.


Heather Jewell

Fundraising Interests:

Food security, urban issues (i.e. urban forestry, community development initiatives), others that I have yet to define.




During high school, Heather spent 3 months living and working in a small town in Ecuador as part of York Region District School Board’s International Cooperative Education Program. This was a life changing experience and led her to see the incredible resources and opportunities available in Canada to help those in need. Through working at a small grocery specializing in local food, she came to realize a passion for food security and local environmental issues. Last summer, Heather volunteered at The Stop Community Food Centre helping run the pizza bake oven for over 100 community members.


While attending the University of Calgary, Heather volunteered with the Student Union Volunteer Services helping to maintain the volunteer database and answer student questions. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and also focused on Latin American Studies. In addition, she volunteered with Calgary Animal Services.


Her professional achievements include creating an employee training manual and reference guide, and managing small business offices. She expects to complete a Graduate program in Fundraising and Volunteer Management at Humber College in August 2011.  She hopes to work with groups and organizations helping them grow and better serve and support their communities. 


Mimosa Kabir  

From a young age, Mimosa was always the first to volunteer for anything that needed to be done, from sorting recyclables during recess in elementary school to organizing semi-formal in high school. Her passion for volunteering continued while she completed her Honours B.A degree in Global Development Studies from Queen’s University. Among others, Mimosa has volunteered consistently with Queen’s Students for Literacy, as well as Kingston Interval House, a domestic abuse shelter. Mimosa also has a strong background in youth advocacy, specifically in health promotion which taught her how to raise awareness, influence policy and create change. She has been an active volunteer since high school with several anti-smoking initiatives, which resulted in several working opportunities with the Ministry of Health and the Region of Peel. Just this past summer, Mimosa worked for Youth Advocacy Training Institute, a program of the Ontario Lung Association, where she learnt how to engage youth to become more active in their communities. Her volunteer and work experiences increased her awareness about how funding is critical for not for profit organizations to reach all those in need of their services. In an effort to do her part, Mimosa joined student branches of the United Way and Development and Peace, to raise money by hosting events including bake sales, coffee houses, movie nights, pub nights, etc. The 2009 United Way campaign was especially successful and Mimosa helped Queen’s reach over $315,000.


Mimosa’s interest in event planning, combined with her belief in the power of fundraising and a dedication to effect positive changes in our society has  stimulated Mimosa’s interest in the not for profit industry. Currently, she is enrolled at Humber College in a graduate program in Fundraising and Volunteer Management.


Vanessa Kalisz  

Vanessa Kalisz graduated in June 2009 from Ryerson University with an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography Studies. She has volunteered with The Herbie Fund and along with her family, has hosted two children and their mothers while they were in Toronto receiving life-changing surgeries. During her last year at Ryerson, Vanessa was one of the Creative Directors for Function Magazine, the Image Arts Department’s annual not for profit magazine. She was involved in every aspect of the magazine, from conceptualizing the issue to overseeing layout, printing and fundraising. Through Function's fundraising efforts that year, $6000 was raised in order to finance the production of the magazine. These experiences were a catalyst for Vanessa's interest in the world of fundraising and in the Fall of 2009, she was thrilled to intern in the development department at The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery. While there, Vanessa was able to be a part of the Toronto art scene she loves while still developing her interest in fundraising. She has also found her photography background invaluable during her time interning and volunteering, where she is often asked to photograph events or take the occasional last minute headshot. Growing up in a family of educators, Vanessa gained experience volunteering in classrooms and developed a deep appreciation for education. Currently, she is studying Fundraising and Volunteer Management at Humber College and looking forward, she is eager to incorporate her love of the arts and education in her future fundraising endeavors.


Stefanie Katotakis

Stefanie Katotakis is enthusiastic about fundraising and event management. She began working with not-for-profits in high school and has continued her work in a broad range of organizations. Stefanie worked with Canadian Blood Services to organize two blood donor clinics for her community. She was a leader in the first year orientation team at Wilfrid Laurier University, which had a central focus on raising money for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation through the Shinerama campaign. Stefanie also led the planning committee for her graduation formal. She has had the privilege of volunteering with the Heart and Stroke Foundation, prospecting schools to join the Jump Rope and Hoops for Heart campaign.

In 2007, Stefanie travelled to Cambodia with Global Youth Network, where she volunteered with several not-for-profit groups that specialize in helping children who have fallen victim to AIDS. It was on this trip that Stefanie discovered her passion for working to help improve the lives of ill and underprivileged children and their families. She would like to advance her career in the not-for-profit sector with a focus on raising funds for families with children who have extraordinary needs.

Stefanie graduated with distinction from Wilfrid Laurier University with an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration, specializing in marketing.  She is currently enrolled in the Fundraising and Volunteer Management Graduate Program at Humber College.


Mariko Kojima  

An accomplished pianist for 21 years and a piano teacher for 9 years, Mariko’s biggest passion is arts education and music. She independently managed private lessons for around 40 students of all ages and levels and tailored each lesson to meet the student's needs. Mariko has been involved in administrative and special events volunteering for many non-profit organizations, including ArtStarts in Schools, Arts Umbrella and Festival Vancouver. Most recently, she successfully organized and performed in a benefit concert to support Arts Umbrella’s Sarah McLachlan Music Outreach program. While obtaining her Bachelor of Music degree at the University of British Columbia, Mariko was internal vice president of MUSA, the music student government where she organized events and addressed issues raised by fellow students. Currently, Mariko is studying fundraising and volunteer management at Humber College and plans on using her knowledge to help promote the arts so that it continues to inspire people of all ages. 


Fiona MacAlpine

Fiona MacAlpine is currently completing her post-graduate course in Fundraising and Volunteer Management at Humber College in Toronto. Fiona has had the wonderful experience of seeing a charity grow from the ground up. Working with the St. Joseph’s Hospice of Sarnia Lambton she started with the organization one year after the opening of a small resource centre. From there Fiona worked with the Fundraising Coordinator on a $6.3 million capital campaign to construct a 10 bed residential hospice. Most recently she worked alongside the volunteer coordinator at the hospice, which opened in November 2009. Through this experience Fiona was able to see many of the trials and tribulations a charity faces and has learned to work through these challenges.

Fiona continues to enjoy volunteering for various special events. Her favourites include Relay for Life, Ride to Concur Conquer and Interaction, an integrated industry and academic conference for clinical trails in oncology.  She finds these events have helped her to recognize the health sector as her primary area of interest.


Nora MacLeod  

Nora spent much of her youth involved in a non-profit dance school in her hometown of Woodstock, Ontario, which aimed at bettering the community through its classes for young children to adults. She began as a member and then went on to become an assistant and volunteer to the organization. She has many years of volunteering under her belt through schools, food banks and other local organizations. Nora has gained experience in fundraising for health organizations aimed at cancer treatments and research. Most recently she held an event that helped raise $2000 for a rider involved in the Tour de Lance bike race with all the money going to The Cedars Cancer Institute in Montreal. Her passion spans from youth education to cancer research and treatment. She received an Honours Bachelor of Arts from Wilfrid Laurier University with a combined major in Communication Studies and Film Studies and she is currently a candidate in Humber College’s Fundraising and Volunteer Management graduate program. During her time in the program, Nora has worked with various organizations on campaign plans, social corporate responsibility reports, communication pieces, code of ethics, grants proposals, direct mail campaigns and various strategies in prospecting, cultivating and stewarding donors. She was also involved in the planning and implementing of events throughout the year. These included a Movember Wrap party held at El Mocambo in downtown Toronto as well as a Humber Alumni Social held at Peridot Resto and Lounge downtown Toronto. Nora is now looking forward to extending her knowledge in fundraising through an internship working with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada out of Montreal.



 Andrea McGrath 

Andrea McGrath has volunteered in the nonprofit sector for the past 20 years. She has been contributing to the promotions, of special events, and fundraising for organizations such as Big Sisters, Good Shepherd, Ian Anderson House, Hospice of Waterloo Region, and the Canadian Red Cross Society.  In addition to her volunteer work she has an extensive background in theatre and education. Andrea has performed with the educational theatre company Big Kid Entertainment, taught drama at Star Academy’s after school program, and taught preschool for the City of Burlington. While earning her degree in Drama in Education and Society from Brock University, she served as President of Brock’s Resident Action Council, which included organizing events for more than 2000 students. She has created a theatre company focused on educating student-teachers about creating and running shows.

Andrea is currently employed at the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television as the Membership and Development Assistant.


Keely Morandin



From a young age Keely has been motivated to make a living advocating for a cause that she is truly passionate about.  In high school, a student exchange to Geneva, Switzerland opened her eyes to the international community and she became aware of the absence in education and acceptance of other cultures back home in rural Ontario.  This experience led her to pursue a degree in Global and Communication Studies from Wilfrid Laurier University. From Laurier, Keely relocated to Nipissing University in North Bay, Ontario. At Nipissing Keely completed her Honours BA in History where her research focused on the relationship between Canadian foreign policy and community histories.  After completing an original history on Italian immigration in North Bay, she became even more passionate about the importance of providing settlement assistance to new Canadians in rural areas. Upon graduation, Keely became a volunteer for the North Bay and District Multicultural Centre where she provided administrative support and helped to facilitate English as a Second Language classes.  Keely has always made it a priority to be involved within her community. While in university, she was the Vice-President of The Communication Students' Association. Keely was also an active member of the Kamloops Rotaract Club and a volunteer with The Muskoka Trails Council. Most recently, Keely volunteered with Hospice Muskoka and coordinated the 2010 Hike for Hospice in Bracebridge. Keely also has 7 years experience as the manager of her family’s catering company where she developed essential skills in event management. Currently, Keely is thrilled to be enrolled in the Graduate Program at Humber College for Fundraising and Volunteer Management where she hopes to further develop her skills and start a professional career in the not for profit sector. 


Sarah Muir  


Sarah Muir comes to the Fundraising and Volunteer Management Program at Humber after completing a bachelor's degree at Carleton University  in Public Affairs and Policy Management with a Specialization in International Studies.  She started volunteering at a young age and over the years has had the pleasure of organizing and participating in a wide variety of events including food drives, Model United Nations competitions, the Vagina Monologues, International Peace Day, and Cancer Relay for Life.  Sarah has also had the privilege of holding executive positions in Carleton's Model UN Club, as well as her degree's student association, and she served as Director General of Central Canada for IDEAL, ( a networking NGO).  The causes she cares mostly deeply about are International Development, Women's Issues, Human Rights, Environmental Sustainability, and Conflict Resolution.

Another great passion of Sarah's is travelling.  She had the opportunity to combine these two passions when she spent month in Northern Thailand doing community work in a small village outside of Chiang Rai with her YMCA's Advanced Youth Leadership group.  After this experience she was infected by the travel bug and has since volunteered and travelled in four continents with the hope of making it to more interesting places in the future.  Sarah is really looking forward to the year ahead; in addition to adding to her skill set she also hopes to gain some great friends and professional contacts.


Christi Musico  

Christi Musico realized her passion while volunteering with the 30 Hour Famine, The Good Shepherd and singing at two Catholic churches in Hamilton. Her efforts were recognized by receiving the Lieutenant Governor’s Community Volunteer Award in 2004.  Her enthusiasm continued while she earned her Bachelor of Arts from Brock University studying Drama in Education and Society. She dedicated her time as Leader/Co-Director/Writer with a performance group called Actively Acting Out, was an active leader/event coordinator as a member of the Residence Life Staff, created a Study Guide to be distributed to schools for a Drama in Education club, and served as Executive Secretary/Fundraiser/Cast Member for Brock Musical Theatre. She has also organized and facilitated large scale events at Dundurn National Historic Site in Hamilton. Christi is currently Publicity Director for Brock Musical Theatre and enrolled in the Fundraising and Volunteer Management graduate program at Humber College.


Katie Nestor   



Leanne Price 

Leanne Price is a fund development professional with five years of successful corporate sales and marketing experience. She is committed to working with organizations that share in her principles that sustainable and accessible and communities are at the core of healthy, vibrant society. Her research focus has been Corporate Social Responsibility and its relationship to philanthropy. Nearing the completion of her Post Graduate studies in Philanthropic Giving, Leanne is ready to move forward with a career in Major and Planned Giving.

Leanne currently is fulfilling an internship with Amnesty International, supporting their Major and Planned Giving programs.



Ashley Renaud

  Ashley Renaud played an active role in her community from a young age, from participating in local cancer walk-a-thons to working with her local minor hockey association. While studying political science at the University of Windsor, Ashley became committed to issues involving global poverty, international development and human rights. During her time as a student, Ashley interned with Brian Masse, a local Member of Parliament. As an intern, she learned about the variety of issues facing the community and the role of federal government. Ashley also spent time as a campaign volunteer during the 2008 Federal elections as well as numerous municipal elections.Due to her passion for international development, Ashley helped create the University of Windsor’s Oxfam Canada club. Serving as vice-president, Ashley worked to create and promote events to benefit Oxfam’s Health, Education, Safe Water for All campaign. Ashley is currently studying Fundraising and Volunteer Management at Humber College, in order to most effectively serve the causes closest to her heart. 


Kelly Smith  

Kelly Smith began her journey at the University of Guelph majoring in Marketing Management. She quickly changed paths after an introductory course on international development changed her life.  It inspired her to become involved in various not for profit groups as well as embedding a deep desire to focus her work towards the greater good of society.  After changing majors Kelly graduated from the International Development program at Guelph, concentrating on environment and development.  Throughout her studies and after, she has experience working abroad and within the Canadian context with Habitat for Humanity, Opportunity International, and Global Youth Network. She helped raise money for Steve’s Place, a Guatemalan orphanage catering to children with disabilities. She also composed a historical sketch of youth engagement in climate change policy which was presented to youth participants at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.  Her aspirations are geared toward providing a better future and equal opportunity for all.  Kelly is currently enrolled at Humber College in the Fundraising and Volunteer Management graduate program in hopes to materialize these goals.


Margaux Smith

Margaux Smith has great aspirations to change the world, one creature at a time. She spent two years working for the Wild Bird Care Centre, a small charity out of Ottawa, Canada and has volunteered overseas, working with Asian Elephants in Thailand, young horseback riders in South Africa, and endangered Macaws in Costa Rica. In Toronto, she volunteered with the fundraising department at World Wildlife Fund Canada, and as a riding coach with the Canadian Pony Club in Ottawa, where she was on the executive of the Ashton First Field branch and was the coach of the A level team. She has had experience working with many different species including reptiles, birds, mammals, and humans, and thinks they all deserve our attention when their needs are great. She also worked for one year at Hyperactive Productions, helping to produce promotional videos for not for profit organizations. Margaux received her Bachelor of Arts from Carleton University in Environmental Studies and Earth Science and has recently completing the Graduate program at Humber College in Fundraising and Volunteer Management. She had the privilege of attending the Association of Fundraising Professionals 2010 conference in Toronto, where she was inspired by lectures from the great minds in cause marketing. She has been drawn into that world and decided to move to London, UK, where she is now a marketing intern at Bluefrog Ltd. She is passionate about animal rights, international aid and environmental welfare. She is an avid enthusiast of animal behaviour and loves to learn. Margaux hopes to spend her life promoting compassion and empathy towards those who need it most. 


Wendy Tung

Wendy Tung brings to the not for profit sector her experience in securing sponsorships, outreaching to the public, planning and executing events. Her passion lies in food security and economic sustainability for African countries. She has spoken at York University during United Nations’ International Day for Eradication of Poverty, delivered a workshop for Dignitas International and facilitated monthly meetings for Results Canada. She was presented with an Exceptional Volunteer Award by this advocacy group last year, for her efforts in ending extreme poverty while supporting others to do the same. Other organizations she is committed to include Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada, Starlight Children's Foundation, YMCA and the Toronto Public Library. Wendy is now furthering her graduate studies at Humber College in Fundraising and Volunteer Management, where she will expand her knowledge and broaden her skills in different areas of the not for profit sector.


Dave Welbourn

Dave Welbourn brings passion, zeal, and dedication to the Fundraising and Volunteer Management graduate program this year. Dave graduated from McMaster University in 2008 with a degree in history, with an emphasis on the World Wars, the conflict in the Middle East, and the rise of international institutions of power such as the United Nations. It was at McMaster where Dave discovered his passion for international development and humanitarian aid, and it is at Humber where he eagerly engages the cultivation of that passion. On a local level, Dave is excited about working for causes as diverse as cancer re search and funding for the arts; in the spring of 2010 he volunteered for a not-for-profit theatre administration company called STAF. Both as a student and as a professional in the fundraising field, Dave ultimately wishes to have a profound, enriching effect on the lives of less fortunate individuals. Caitlin White  






Compassion for the well being of others and a desire to create stronger communities has led Caitlin White to Humber's Fundraising and Volunteer Management Graduate Program. Awareness of one's social responsibility came early as she grew up, both personally and professionally, within Girl Guides of Canada and the YMCA which fostered her values of inclusiveness, community involvement and democratic leadership. Her secondary school years were spent volunteering for such organizations as the Kidney Foundation and United Way aiding with direct mail campaigns, selling draw tickets at Raptor Games and volunteering at their annual galas. She moved on to complete an Honours Communications degree from Wilfrid Laurier University which encouraged Caitlin's desire to help others. She acted as the coordinator for a group on campus that provided resources and education for students struggling with their finances as well as a general volunteer for the on campus Emergency Response Team. Caitlin has since spent two years in the work force, acquiring experience in administration and sales which she aspires to use in a future career in the not for profit sector. She is passionate about issues surrounding women and children's rights, providing resources for new immigrants and increasing availability of mental health services.


Kristy Williams


Kristy Williams recently graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with an Honours B.A. in Sociology. Her interest in fundraising began at a young age through gaining church support for a community in the Philippines. While working at State Farm Insurance, Kristy successfully organized a food drive for a local food bank. Kristy was involved in all stages of this event from writing a proposal to gain permission to run the event in the workplace, to creating effective marketing and collecting and distributing donations. During her undergraduate career, Kristy's ambition for both volunteerism and the health sector grew through volunteer positions at the Alzheimer Society as well as at the Canadian Mental Health Association’s distress center in Kitchener. Long-term commitment to these organizations allowed Kristy to gain insight on the importance of an organized and efficient volunteer program and the necessity of fundraising for providing these crucial services. Kristy is now using this insight to complete a postgraduate program in Fundraising and Volunteer Management at Humber College in Toronto.

I really want this page to look nice, and have a standard so everyone's bio kind of looks the same. Is is ok if I edit it as we go along, of course not changing content, but making people's fonts/tables match? Like, with the size of my window, I couldn't read Andrea's full bio, so I changed her table width to 100% so it would adjust to the size of the screen of the user.
